At this point in boutique-hotel history, there’s a limit to how thrilling another New York or London hotel can be. Not so in Kansas City, Missouri, where a new boutique hotel is big news indeed. The Fontaine takes its stylistic cues from Renaissance Venice, which would be enough, on its own, to set it apart from the ordinary business hotels with which it shares its hometown. But there’s more to its appeal than just its visual identity — the atmosphere, from top to bottom, is one of urbane sophistication, but it’s light-hearted enough to still feel approachable here in this down-to-earth Midwestern city.
With 132 rooms and suites it’s a comfortable size, with accommodations that span the range from comfortable Traditional and Deluxe rooms to extravagant suites, including a Presidential Suite that’s worthy of the name. At all levels you’ll have luxe touches like Carrera marble vanities and walk-in rainshowers, as well as Egyptian cotton linens and goose-down pillows. Parker, the rooftop restaurant, has impressive views of the surrounding city, and the bar is an upscale cocktail venue with a terrace by the poolside. And the Solarium Lounge serves breakfast in a soaring, sunny space, the perfect place to start the day.
