MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View
This darling of a dining room is designed with elegant blue-grey leather banquettes, black lacquer bentwood chairs, and a dark checkerboard floor. Potted plants, moody lighting, and a rustic bar with brass accents make it a dream-worthy refuge for a romantic tête-à-tête. Married couple, Angie Rito and Scott Tacinelli, are the brains behind this venture, where the team takes risks that result in highly creative and enriching cuisine.
While the menu feels like an American story as told through an Italian lens, Asian elements also make guest appearances as in the spicy pepperoni fried rice gussied-up with tender grilled calamari. Playful aptly describes the combination of spicy veal tartare and tuna carpaccio. Pastas are similarly prolific, like the paprika-tinted sopressin with smoked mussels or sourdough pasta in a 'Nduja sauce with mezcal-braised chicken. Pesce alla griglia in a clam broth and Sicilian scallop crudo speak of bold flavors and polished methods.
Desserts, such as the fior di latte mochi with golden Taggiasca olive oil or black cocoa tiramisu garnished with feuilletine, are just the icing on the cake. Go for over-the-top glee with a sip of house-made root beer amaro.
