La Casa del Presidente
Calle los Telares, 1, Ávila, Spain
10 Rooms
Modern Design & Lively
Whilst Ávila’s most famous and probably oldest sight is its ancient medieval wall, another piece of Spanish history can be found at La Casa del Presidente. The hotel was once the home of Ávila native Adolfo Suárez, the first democratically elected prime minister since the Second Spanish Republic, who built it right next to a portion of the wall back in the 70s and lived in it on and off for more than a decade. You can even still enter the president’s former office, now the hotel’s lobby for check-in, although the team probably no longer needs the small secret door that was his planned escape route in case of emergency. Rooms are smartly dressed, and some look onto Walls of Ávila, although if you want a guaranteed view, upgrade to a suite. The centuries-old stones also surround the hotel’s Castilian restaurant Caleña, as well as the outdoor pool, which sits surrounded by manicured gardens.
