Modern Design & Quiet
There’s nothing in Japan or anywhere else quite like Loquat Nishi-Izu. Here the centuries-old home of a prominent local family has been transformed into a self-described Italian auberge — a ryokan-like experience that departs from the norm in memorable ways. The main house is home to Takeru Quindici, an Italian restaurant overseen by European-trained Japanese chefs. Two adjacent buildings contain the two on-site suites, each one a spacious and nearly self-sufficient private residence, furnished with en suite spring-fed baths. An on-site bakery serves French pastry and house-made gelato; nearby is Villa Suguro, an additional two-bedroom villa.
