Rio de Janeiro already had a full complement of glamorous, high-end luxury hotels. So it’s a big deal that it’s suddenly got another. Hotel Emiliano stands over Copacabana Beach, and while you won’t mistake it for any of its 1920s-vintage neighbors, it’s quintessentially Brazilian all the same — the design, by Studio Arthur Casas and Oppenheim Architecture & Design, is a masterful mix of Brazilian Modernism and contemporary cool.
It’s been a hit with celebrities, both local and international, and it’s not hard to see why: stylish interiors, top-shelf comforts, an excellent location, and a stunning rooftop pool. The rooms feature classic modernist furnishings by the likes of Sergio Rodrigues and Isamu Noguchi, as well as warm expanses of wood alongside lavish comforts. Sea views, naturally, are to be preferred, though the city views are nothing to turn your nose up at.
There’s an impressive spa with a bit of outdoor space of its own, and the fine-dining Emile Restaurant is impressive as well. But the most remarkable space, again, is the rooftop, where the restaurant and bar alongside the pool look out over the city and Guanabara Bay.
