The Italian fashion photographer Gian Paolo Barbieri bought this house on the south end of Mahé in the Seventies, and gave it the name it still goes by today — but today’s Mango House has expanded quite a bit, into a luxury boutique hotel whose accommodations span the range from a room with a single king bed all the way to a three-bedroom house with its own plunge pool. It’s a member of Hilton’s LXR collection, which adds a sheen of professionalism to the hospitality but doesn’t detract from the place’s character, even as it’s grown to encompass an impressive spa and no fewer than five bars and restaurants.
