Ballynahinch Castle Hotel & Estate stands on 700 acres of riverside woodland in wild Connemara, offering its guests the quintessential Irish countryside experience alongside the kind of traditionally minded hospitality that’s quickly becoming a lost art.
The rooms are handsome, spacious, and up to date in their equipment, though gloriously traditional in their interior-design style. They’re divided between the 17th-century house and a newer addition, as well as a five-bedroom lodge and a six-bedroom cottage, both in an attractive contemporary-classic style.
In classic country-house style the public spaces are as inviting as the accommodations, from drawing rooms and lounges to the terrace, the café, the Fisherman’s Pub and Ranji Room, and the fine-dining Owenmore Restaurant. Meanwhile, outside the castle’s doors, activities include everything from picnics and walks to fly fishing, boating, cycling, and hiking in the mountains of Connemara.
