This nearly century-old modernist building has been through several evolutions, from its birth in 1933 as the Daells Varehus department store to the Hotel Skt Petri, one of the city’s first design-oriented boutique hotels. As of 2025 it’s home to 1 Hotel Copenhagen, and in typical 1 Hotels style, it’s more than just a rebrand — this is a complete re-imagining, though an environmentally sensitive and waste-minimizing one.
Inside you’ll find what might be the region’s most warm, organic-feeling luxury hotel; the signature 1 Hotels aesthetic overlaps significantly with the Danish concept of hygge. Raw wood and concrete form the backdrop for the rooms and suites, which are furnished with touchable textiles and living plants. They’re luxurious and subtly high-tech, but low-impact as well, and feel more virtuous than decadent.
Fjora, the flagship restaurant, serves determinedly local Nordic fare, while PÆRE, the cocktail bar, aims to spark connections and creativity over a glass or two. The hotel is almost as pet-friendly as it is environmentally friendly, and it’s not just earth-focused but health-focused as well — a Bamford spa opens in 2026, and in the meantime the staff can recommend running routes, fitness classes, and things to see around town.
