Deux Clefs MICHELIN · Un séjour exceptionnel
Even among grand hotels Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel, Cape Town stands out. This lush urban sanctuary, affectionately known by locals as “the Nellie,” has been the grande dame of the local hospitality scene since its opening in 1899. It’s set amidst nine acres of manicured gardens, ancient trees, and rolling lawns, and its seven historic wings frame spectacular views of Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, and Devil’s Peak.
And though it retains its period style, Mount Nelson is in spectacular shape for a 125-year-old hotel. The rooms and suites combine classic inspiration with a contemporary decorator’s eye as well as first-rate modern comforts; the Signature Suites are particularly lavish, more akin to private residences than ordinary hotel accommodations.
Guests unwind beside two large heated pools or play tennis on floodlit courts, with instruction by a resident coach; kids enjoy a supervised play center staffed by professional childminders. Meanwhile the Librisa Spa, set within a row of restored Victorian houses, offers a range of treatments along with yoga classes and personal training sessions.
As you’d expect from a hotel of its caliber, Mount Nelson cuts no corners in its culinary offerings. Options range from casual al fresco poolside dining to the intimate Chef’s Table experience; the hotel’s afternoon tea is a local legend, while Sundays are livened by the sound of Jazz Brunch. Just outside the hotel’s gates lies Kloof Street, alive with bars, cafés, and art galleries, and the city’s famous beaches and the Cape’s historic wine estates are within easy reach.
