Whereas the typical InterContinental is best described as “tasteful,” this one is downright unusual — and we mean that in the best way. The InterContinental Perth City Centre inherited its modernist structure, with its distinctive square windows, from an earlier hotel, but it’s leaned into its role as one of Perth’s most memorable lodgings, filling its spaces with unique gestures like patterned carpets that echo the architecture, and a truly remarkable collection of contemporary Western Australian art.
The rooms and suites maintain the monochrome-plus-gold color palette established in the public spaces, and are warmed by an unusual depth of detail and texture. Lavish marble bathrooms with rain showers are the norm; suites add separate bathtubs in addition to their dedicated living space. And the views of the various landmarks of Perth’s central business district are nothing if not impressive.
Meanwhile the hotel’s restaurants combine Western Australian flavors and ingredients with Spanish recipes and inspiration; Heno & Rey is the tapas bar whose seating spills over into an outdoor area at the corner of King and Hay, while Ascua is the slightly more upscale option featuring dry-aged meats and seafood prepared on a wood-fired grill.
