Six Senses has some experience with this sort of thing, but even by their lofty standards, this is a special one. Six Senses Kanuhura is spread across three private islands in the Maldives, accessible by seaplane from Malé or speedboat from the Lhaviyani Atoll. Some may remember the original Kanuhura resort; the Six Senses era is marked not just by a substantial refurbishment but an expansion of the facilities and a general upgrade to what was already a thoroughly luxurious experience — all while preserving the integrity and the beauty of Kanuhura Island.
The accommodations range from couples-sized beachfront villas to larger “retreats” and “reserves,” many of them family-sized. And the water villas, with their thatched roofs and attached plunge pools, offer an overwater experience that’s as close to the ocean as you can get and still stay dry. At all levels they’re stylish in an understated tropical way, and they’re exquisitely comfortable and well-equipped.
One of the outlying islands is used for a private beach picnic, while the other is home to Drift, a restaurant specializing in grilled seafood. Back on Kanuhura Island you’ll find a few more restaurants, from the eclectic and versatile Market to the Italian-inspired Bottega. In classic Six Senses style the spa program is almost absurdly extensive, ranging from massages and manicures to yoga classes, private training, and the Biohacking Recovery Lounge. And the sea life of the Maldives is perhaps the ultimate attraction — the lagoon is paradise for diving and other water sports.
