Among the most scenic locales in the Dolomites is Val Gardena, and one of the valley’s finest lodgings is the Alpenroyal Grand Hotel Gourmet & Spa. Built in the fifties, it nevertheless exhibits a traditional Alpine style in its architecture, while its interiors have been brought up to date — still classic, but exhibiting a touch of modern furniture and up-to-date comforts. Many of the rooms and suites feature impressive views of the surrounding peaks, and like any hotel of its caliber Alpenroyal is a four-season destination. Nor are “gourmet” and “spa” included in the name by accident; the former is a nod to the hotel’s four restaurants, from fine dining to fondue, and the latter refers to the expansive, thoroughly modern and mostly subterranean spa and wellness complex.
