By now it’s no secret that there’s more to Mallorca than just its beach resorts. There’s also a fairly impressive mountain range, the Serra de Tramuntana, which runs along the northwestern edge of the islands. It’s in the interior foothills of these mountains that you’ll find the town of Alaró — and, on the edge of town, a beautiful little five-room boutique called El Nido Alaró.
You’re not turning your back on beach life entirely, or the rest of this compact island, for that matter — you’re 30 minutes from the beach, 25 minutes from Palma, and 25 minutes from the airport. But El Nido, with its tranquil garden and its beautiful pool, feels a world removed from Mallorca’s tourist industry. A place this small already hardly feels much like a hotel, and El Nido is scarcely more than a guesthouse, a classic farmhouse renovated in a contemporary style.
Rooms come with high-end Hypnos beds, and the morning begins with an impressive breakfast fashioned from local and seasonal ingredients. It’s a very fine place to hide away, but there’s also plenty for more active guests to do: hiking, biking, and golfing are among the nearby attractions, as is Alaró Castle, where many centuries of local history are on display.
