Surrounded by Mediterranean gardens, Phāea Cretan Malia is a slow-living retreat on Crete’s northern coast. The mix of family-friendly rooms, bungalows and suites feel contemporary but rooted in the island thanks to local natural materials such as Cretan marble, chestnut wood, and rattan, handcrafted furnishings, and botanical artwork by renowned Greek artists. Many also come with balconies or garden terraces. Together the four restaurants serve a mix of Mediterranean and Levantine cuisine based around Phāea’s farm-to-table philosophy, and there are numerous bars and coffee shops to grab a drink, perhaps whilst the children are being entertained at the Kids’ Club. There are activities for all ages including yoga sessions, tennis, Cretan cooking classes, and outdoor cinema screenings, or take it easy with dips in the Aegean and hammock-bound siestas.
