The Hoxton, Florence
Consider the setting: a picturesque courtyard flanked by a pair of striking buildings, one a 16th-century palazzo, the other a postmodernist structure designed in the 1980s by pioneering Italian architect Andrea Branzi. The rooms inside follow suit — the former with lime-washed walls, original frescoes, and vintage-inspired decor, while the latter feature minimalist furnishings and whimsical geometric patterns. A few have separate living rooms or terraces with outdoor tubs and views of the Duomo, and larger House units have private entrances, multiple bedrooms, fully equipped kitchens, and outdoor dining areas.
Downstairs, in keeping with the Hoxton ethos, there’s plenty of space to eat, drink, and socialize. The central patio and garden, framed by olive and lemon trees, is home to an open-air restaurant that’s ideal for morning cornetti and cappuccino, a leisurely lunch by the three-tiered fountain, or pasta and cocktails served until midnight. Nearby Enoteca Violetta specializes in Italian wines by the glass, and thanks to the hotel’s location off Piazza della Libertà, countless other cafés and wine bars are blocks away.
