The Plate • Fresh ingredients, carefully prepared: a good meal

The name-no kidding-sure sums this spot up. Make your way inside only to discover that this bi-level beauté isn't afraid of making a splash with brightly painted walls hung with Indian art. Even the colorful cushions add a dose of serotonin. The menu is equally inventive and plays both sides between classic and contemporary. Start things off right with samosa chaat featuring potato-and-pea samosas laid atop curried chickpeas and streaked with tamarind sauce as well as a zesty cilantro-chili chutney. Cooked in a tandoor, chicken tikka makhani is bathed in a tomato- and caramelized-onion gravy, scented with fenugreek and ginger. The creative flair then extends to the bar, where drinks like a Mumbai Mule with rum, lime and curry leaf wet your whistle.
