The Plate • Fresh ingredients, carefully prepared: a good meal
25 - 50 USD
High ceilings and azulejo-adorned walls set the scene at this Noe Valley jewel, which succeeds longtime local spot Incanto. It’s also one of the few high-end San Francisco restaurants spotlighting the cuisine of Portugal, and Chef Telmo Faria delivers a traditional seafood-centric menu. Read: grilled sardines, salt cod fritters, as well as garlic- and chili-inflected shrimp moçambique. Most diners opt to share a flurry of small plates, commencing with potato chips and piri-piri sauce. The entrées are satisfying, too. Try the alcatra, red wine-braised short ribs; or pan-roasted sea bass with molho cru, the Portuguese take on chimichurri. Finally, sip on one of the bar's signature low alcohol cocktails, made with port, sherry and other fortified wines.
