The Plate • Fresh ingredients, carefully prepared: a good meal

Hugging a corner of the West Village, this shellfish charmer is courtesy of Mike Price and Joey Campanaro. The restaurant's huge windows flood the space with daylight, showing off exposed white brick walls and dark wood accents; by night, pretty sconces cast a soft cozy glow. You should be prepared to wait (and yes, it's worth it), but the bustling bar is a fun spot to gather with friends. The focus at The Clam is, of course, its namesake ingredient, but the menu also features seafood, meat and vegetarian options. Try a delicious tangle of spaghetti and clams in a bright red sauce with glistening greens, chili pepper and scallions; or crispy sweet pea risotto balls served over charred onion-chili crema. The gingerbread ice cream sandwich is unbeatable.
