Hotel with a Restaurant
Under 25 USD
Tightly packed bar-height tables fill this tiny izakaya-style restaurant, which is reminiscent of a quirky canteen with a menu designed for fun. The young crowd sips Sapporo or sake against a soundtrack of old-school rock; and the décor, not far behind, ranges from vinyl records to a framed beer ad featuring Japanese women in bathing suits. The space is cramped yet enjoyable, the atmosphere lively and loose. An appropriately moist leek omelet shows the kitchen's deft execution of simple dishes. Meaty, deep-fried chicken wings coated in a nose-tingling vinegar-based buffalo sauce are an optimal drinking accompaniment, as is a bowl of chashu ramen with pork bone broth, delicate noodles, pork belly, pickled ginger and a generous sprinkling of sesame seeds.
