Barano welcomes diners to the rather unknown specialties of the Italian island of Ischia. This stylish dining room sits at the foot of a residential development, just a stone’s throw from the East River and Williamsburg Bridge. Start with an array of sfizzi like wood-fired olives with fennel seeds, celery and lemon. The pasta is always a strong point on the menu, so definitely go for the "tasting" that might feature the fusilli lunghi with white Bolognese; maccheroni alla pummarola with tomatoes and chili; or even bucatini with rabbit ragù. Then, lamb ribs are slowly roasted until fork-tender, in the wood-burning oven right in full view of the dining room before arriving at your table. Lovely, well-rounded desserts include affogato and cannoli.
