MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Diners seeking an authentic and appetizing omakase need to look no further than Sushi Kaito. This tiny and out-of-the-way spot is an absolute gem. Owner Yoko Hasegawa christened it “kaito,” which means sea breeze, and the space with 12 seats does indeed feel like a fresh ocean breeze. This is classic-style omakase from start to finish, and with a few exceptions, it’s largely focused on nigiri. Choose from the 12-course or the 16-course menu, featuring every type of fish from Spanish mackerel and barracuda, to a perfect slice of sea bream and Arctic char. All of the excellent quality product is treated with great care and accoutrements are minimal but enhance the flavors when employed. Sake lovers should note that Sushi Kaito does not offer alcohol.
