MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

With its stone-accented walls, chunky wood furnishings and poured concrete bar studded with Moorish tile, Estadio, or “stadium” as it translates, plays up its Spanish influences. It’s no surprise then that the focus is on tapas, but these unusual combinations and preparations offer a pleasant twist on tradition. Golden-brown jamón croquetas are amped up with pickled cucumber; fava bean and almond spread is a thick and creamy snack; and sizzling squid a la plancha is drizzled with a citrusy salsa verde. Chase it all down with a glass of wine from Spain, Portugal and the Canary Islands; a cocktail mixed with house-made tonics; or even a slushito-an icy blend of grapefruit, Bourbon and amontillado, designed to counteract a hot summer's night.
