On Monday, chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants in Washington, D.C., Chicago, San Francisco and New York City gathered at the newly-renovated Ziegfeld Ballroom in Manhattan to celebrate the launch of the U.S. guide books.
After opening remarks from Claire Dorland Clauzel, Executive Vice President of Sustainable Development, Brands, External Relations and the MICHELIN Guide, a presentation highlighting the newly-starred restaurants was given by none other than MICHELIN Guide International Director Michael Ellis. “This year there is a total of 166 Michelin-starred restaurants in the United States,” he said. “Which is a tribute to just how great the culinary scene is in this country.”
During the cocktail reception, chefs and culinary enthusiasts noshed on small plates from executive chef Matthew Tiscornia, as well as bites D’Artagnan and Murray’s Cheese.
The reception was followed by a five-course sit-down dinner; three of the courses were prepared by chefs Daniel Boulud, Eric Ripert and Ken Frank. Napa Valley was also widely-celebrated at the event, with pairings provided by Napa Valley Vintners and a grand toast by Robert Parker Wine Advocate editor-in-chief, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, to the resilient wine country in wake of recent wildfires.
