MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Owner Justin Bazdarich and Chef de Cuisine Yara Herrera are the brains behind this plant-based Mexican concept. Named for the Aztec goddess of young maize, Xilonen flaunts some serious culinary chops. Set in Greenpoint, it has a stylish outdoor patio; inside, the white walls make for a nice contrast against bright purple and yellow accents, while leather seats and a walnut bar encourage lingering. And how can one expect anything less, especially with food so good? Guacamole here is folded with pistachio macha verde. Heartier items include purple potato tacos with tomatillo salsa and cashew "queso."

Cap off the sumptuous spread with a crisp, sweet churro dunked in Oaxacan chocolate and a sip of Cafeologia-sourced coffee. Sound like bliss? You bet it is.
