MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

In the old adage of the chicken vs. the egg, the former definitely comes first at Toriko, a popular yakitori chain that makes its stateside appearance with this outpost. It’s a well-oiled machine with that trademark energetic ambience. Sit at the counter and order à la carte since the dining room is tasting menu only.

Appetizers like poached chicken breast topped with yuzu kosho, and creamy chicken liver pâté on crunchy toast are proof positive that it’s all about the bird here. However, experienced yakitori fans craving more unusual parts should steer clear of the carte and go for skewer after skewer of succulent grilled meats—from spicy wasabi chicken fillet and heart to thigh and chicken oyster. Buttery, charred Wagyu may be thrown in for good measure.
