MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Like a doyenne who moves to a penthouse post-divorce, La Goulue is back on the scene. Just off Park Avenue, this quintessential French bistro has been the go-to for generations of Birkin bag-donning divas, and despite this move, it appears to have preserved much of its glorious past. Rediscover everything from the dark wood panels and front door, to their iconic cheese soufflé—on offer since 1972.

It’s a see-and-be-seen scene, packed with suited gents and their lovely ladies. Everyone is supping on traditional favorites like a haricot vert salad, crisp, cool and slathered with white truffle dressing; followed by duck confit with a wonderfully tart cherry reduction. Flaky and buttery tarte Tatin is topped with crème fraîche for a crowning dessert.
