MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Lucky are those who call Crown Heights home, for Uotora is the kind of cozy and excellent sushiya we all want to call our local spot. The sparsely decorated room, lined with minimalist blonde wood, sets a serene backdrop for the real star of the show: wildly pristine fish, flown in directly from Japan. Accordingly, their à la carte offers a few cooked items as well as a delicious lineup of plates, but the highlight is surely the sushi and sashimi, featuring fish aged in-house and prepared Edomae-style. These methods may be trending right now, but take true chops to master—and the itamae here (who hail from the esteemed Sushi of Gari) absolutely nail them. Throw in affordable prices along with a welcoming staff, and you have a hit worth a cab from the city.
