Where to Eat Thanksgiving Dinner in New York City

Five Michelin-starred restaurants to book for your holiday meal.

Thanksgiving day will be here before we know it. Though many spend hours (or sometimes days) preparing for the annual feast at home, others opt to take the less arduous route by making a reservation instead. For those of you looking to have someone else do the heavy lifting, here are five Michelin-starred restaurants to consider for celebrating the holiday in New York City.

Gotham Bar and Grill

At this classic spot near Union Square, guests can enjoy a four-course meal for $150 ($60 for children under the age of 12). Every meal starts with an amuse bouche of celery root apple soup with cranberry crema. From there you can choose from an array of appetizer, entree and dessert options, such as a roasted beet salad, grilled rack of lamb, roast venison, or a bourbon pecan tart. Those looking for something extra special can opt for an additional caviar course for a supplementary fee.

Delaware and Hudson

Meals here start with a variety of dishes for the table to share, including chopped chicken liver with pickled ramps, house-smoked bluefish pâté, scalloped oysters and maple bourbon sweet potatoes. For the main course you can choose the more traditional route of turkey, mashed potatoes, chestnut stuffing, green beans and cranberry compote, or you can switch it up a bit with braised short ribs, squash purée, roasted root vegetables, greens and figs. Whichever you choose, just be sure to save room for the selection of pies.

Jean-Georges

Jean-Georges Vongerichten's eponymous restaurant in Columbus Circle is offering a four-course menu to satiate their appetites. The free range turkey and foie gras stuffing with verjus and autumn vegetables is the dish that particularly piques my interest. Diners will finish their meal with pumpkin pie with toasted meringue and cranberry sorbet.

Dovetail

This Upper West Side gem is led by executive chef John Fraser. There's an entire separate vegetarian menu. Dishes include sautéed foie gras with a graham cracker and huckleberries; slow roasted turkey with dark meat agnolotti, sweet potato, creamed winter greens and pecans; and pumpkin chiboust with cider gastrique and spiced pumpkin seeds. Oenophiles have the option of adding a wine pairing for $75. When you're done feasting, you can walk off some of your meal by taking a stroll through Central Park.

The Breslin

At April Bloomfield's gastropub in the Ace Hotel diners can enjoy a prix fixe menu for $85 in the main dining room. If you're not looking for a multi-course meal, you can dine a la carte at the bar. Guests can enjoy caramelized sweet potato and chicory salad with spiced pecans, honeycrisp apples, maple and mustard vinaigrette; rainbow trout with roasted cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, toasted almonds and curry butter; or pecan pie with cranberry relish and orange cardamom ice cream. Those looking to get their fill can up the ante with a bread basket a $5 per person.
