MICHELIN Guide Hong Kong Macau 2018 Selection

The esteemed red guide celebrates its 10th year anniversary in Hong Kong and Macau with triple the number of starred restaurants since its inception.

The results for the 2018 MICHELIN Guide Hong Kong and Macau have been released, with eight new entrants in the one star category and all previous three-starred establishments maintaining their designation.

The full list for this year includes a total of 227 restaurants in Hong Kong and 65 restaurants in Macau. Since the inception of the esteemed red guide in 2008, the number of selected restaurants has tripled, as the Hong Kong dining scene continues to evolve. From local Cantonese dining to upscale fine-dining restaurants, Hong Kong has cemented its status as a buzzing, dynamic gastronomic city in Southeast Asia.

"Ten years after the introduction of the very first MICHELIN Guide selection for Hong Kong Macau, we are pleased to note the vibrancy of the local culinary scene," says Michael Ellis, International Director in charge of the MICHELIN Guides. "The number of starred restaurants has been multiplied by three!" 

From Hong Kong, the prestigious three Michelin-starred list stays the same with names such as Bo Innovation, L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, Lung King Heen, 8 ½ Otto e Mezzo-Bombana, Sushi Shikon, and T’ang Court, while Robuchon au Dôme and The Eight remain the only three-starred restaurants in Macau. These restaurants are part of just over 100 restaurants globally that share this distinction.

There are also a total of 11 two-starred establishments in Hong Kong, and five in Macau this year.

Among the eight new one-starred restaurants this year are Arcane, an open-kitchen concept led by Australian chef Shane Osborn; Kaiseki Den by Saotome, which relocated and renamed itself earlier this year; Imperial Treasure, the first Hong Kong branch from Singapore serving refined Chinese cuisine; Cantonese restaurants with a contemporary twist, Ying Jee Club and Yee Tung Heen; The Ocean, a seafood restaurant owned by French chef Olivier Bellin; Rech, Alain Ducasse's first international outpost of his Parisian seafood restaurant; and Tate by chef/owner Vicky Lau, which just recently moved to a larger space on Hollywood Road this year.

All eight of the new one Michelin-starred restaurants are located in Hong Kong.

There are also 82 Bib Gourmand eateries in this year's MICHELIN guide Hong Kong and Macau, with 17 first-time entrants.
