ROOST Tampa

New York boutique hotels expand to Miami Beach all the time, so why shouldn’t the Philadelphia-based purveyor of boutique-hip serviced apartments set up a Florida branch in downtown Tampa? The immediate location is Tampa’s redeveloped Water Street district, and the building, by Morris Adjmi Architects, is a new build, but one that pays homage to the industrial heritage of the neighborhood; the upper floors are private residences, and the lower ones belong to ROOST Tampa.

Those wide warehouse-style windows contribute to the apartments’ loft-like aspect, and of course admit plenty of South Florida sunlight. The style is modern and minimalist, with just the occasional pop of tropical color; the apartments themselves come in studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom configurations. Space is relatively plentiful throughout, and all of the units find space for a full kitchen and laundry machines, and are warmed by vintage rugs and living plants.

A restaurant is beyond the ambition of this apartment-living concept, but between your kitchen and ROOST’s grocery delivery service, you won’t go hungry. There’s a full-featured fitness center as well, including a swimming pool and a jacuzzi; outdoor social space includes a lawn and garden with a number of shared or private barbecues.
