The Huntington Hotel has been a San Francisco institution for more than a century, standing atop Nob Hill and taking in astonishing views of the bay and the city’s hills. Today it preserves an authentic connection with San Francisco’s history, but it’s no museum — a thorough renovation guided by the local star designer Ken Fulk has left the Huntington aesthetically refreshed, functionally modernized, and ready for another century.
It was built to be an apartment building, and its rooms and suites feel appropriately residential, their generous spaces decorated in a restrained contemporary-classic style. The hotel’s public spaces are more ornate, which is as it should be; the Big Four Restaurant feels like a trip back to the days of the eponymous railroad barons, while Arabella’s Cocktail Salon is both intimate and theatrical. The Nob Hill Spa, meanwhile, offers a surprisingly complete relaxation experience, spanning some 9,000 square feet across three floors.
