The Edison George Town

Modern Design & Lively
The Edison George Town brings fresh energy to a 1906 mansion just outside Penang’s UNESCO-listed core. Once a Hakka tycoon’s home, and later converted into a guesthouse, the building was fully restored in 2016, preserving its marble floors and cast-iron columns while restoring and updating its Art Deco-influenced colonial-era splendor.

Rooms are handsome, combining classic elements with a contemporary color sensibility. The pool sits in a leafy courtyard, with shaded cabanas for mid-afternoon escapes, and the Lounge is a versatile all-day space serving a grab-and-go menu. But the real action is right outside, where George Town’s temples, shophouses, and street food stalls wait in every direction. Heritage with bite, right in the middle of Malaysia’s most flavor-packed city.
