MIRA Earth Studios is unmistakably minimalist in its design, but what looks from a distance like concrete is actually rammed earth, a low-carbon, energy-efficient, handmade material that feels warmer and more welcoming than the industrial alternative. The Nicaraguan architect Juniette Patricia Bermúdez Zarruk was inspired by the desert landscape and the Japanese ideal of wabi-sabi, leaving a rough, almost handmade finish on these ten clean-lined, green-roofed studios.
Each one comes with a private terrace featuring an outdoor Jacuzzi and a fire pit; inside is an infrared sauna as well as a proper kitchen and a living and dining area. There’s high-tech entertainment, if you want it, but the views of the landscape invite undistracted contemplation. And while the privacy of the studios is remarkable, there’s a social life here, too — a swimming pool with a poolside bar takes in the same valley view, and the Fireside restaurant serves elevated Baja comfort food.
