MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

The name, which is a blend of two words “modern” and “Mediterranean,” perfectly describes this kitchen’s focus on Middle Eastern cuisine. Inside, the dining room is casual yet cute with cocktails galore; it captures a certain breezy sophistication at the heart of the Atwater Crossing Arts District (there’s a sib in Beverly Hills as well). But the best place to dine is outdoors on the sunny patio dotted with bare wood tables, wicker chairs and potted olive trees. The menu reflects the flavors of Turkey, Morocco and beyond, beginning with crispy falafel over avocado hummus. Also try duck shawarma layering house-made lavash with duck confit, blistered tomatoes and black mission figs. Those tender momo chips are best dipped in their own garlicky hot sauce.
