MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Deep in the concrete jungle, this newbie from super chef Michael Mina aims to offer a taste of the islands. In collaboration with Hawaiian culinary power couple, Michelle Karr-Ueoka and Wade Ueoka, this tavern's lofty ceilings, leafy plants and tropical turquoise accents offer a punchy contrast against its expansive views of the surrounding skyscrapers. Native Hawaiian ingredients from lilikoi to poi make appearances, often alongside Asian influences-the huli huli chicken, for example, comes with rice cakes and Chinese broccoli. But for a luxe workday lunch, the prix-fixe is a steal. Start with the ahi tuna poke with fried wonton "nachos," and wrap up over the tart strawberry-hibiscus shaved ice, piled atop haupia tapioca and mochi ice cream.
