MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Napa Valley’s answer to the hip Cal-Ital hot spots of San Francisco, Redd Wood boasts an edgy indie soundtrack and a parade of bearded, tattooed waiters. But unlike some cityside establishments, the waitstaff here is personable and enthusiastic, and there’s plenty of breathing room (including a private area that’s popular for events). Artisan pizzas are the main attraction of this kitchen and sometimes simplest is best-like the fresh mozzarella, basil and tomato. Another topped with pancetta, asiago, taleggio and black garlic is equally enticing. But, don't let that limit your choices. The house-cured salumi, fresh pastas and appealing antipasti are also winners-just be sure to save some room for their outstanding toffee cannoli dessert.
