MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

This hidden gem in Japantown offers authentic kaiseki cuisine in a second-floor room seating just nine. Kyoto native, Tetsuro Ozawa, oversees the kitchen, while his wife (Gana) infuses this austere space with genuine hospitality. Expect a set menu of around eight courses, each with superb cyclical ingredients and thoughtful garnishes—imagine freshly shaved wasabi and house-made kombu pickles to fresh flowers.

Depending on the month, you might sup on deep-fried, seaweed-wrapped smelt and sea urchin with kabocha squash; or even red snapper rice in a gingery dashi broth. While an array of pristine sashimi is a perpetual highlight, regardless of the season, expect to begin with creamy, delicate tofu and conclude over sweet, chewy mochi with plum wine gelée.
