MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

This Southern charmer might have you California dreaming with its array of seasonal salads and other lighter bites, but wise diners know to skip straight to the old-school goods: crunchy fried chicken (try the spicy “Nashville hot” version), buttery grits and tender, porky collard greens. Of course, you’ll need to save room for pie. Thick and custardy chocolate pecan, to be exact. Such an indulgent menu might not be expected from this cool, modern space set on a posh stretch of Fillmore Street, but Chef Chris Borges, a New Orleans native, ensures the authenticity of such faves as crawfish mac and cheese, blackened catfish and duck gumbo. Be sure to keep an eye out for daily specials, including half-priced fried chicken dinners on Tuesdays and wine bottles on Wednesdays.
