MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

This tucked-away space in Japantown promises a great evening complete with specialized Japanese cuisine. At the helm of the kitchen is the talented chef, Kiyoshi Hayakawa, who along with his wife, the head server, plus a second sushi chef, provides a concise menu with a $30 à la carte minimum. Serious sushi lovers, however, can always go for the two nigiri-only menus or an all-out omakase with some hot appetizers. The nigiri are excellent—their gently seasoned rice draped with exceptionally pristine fish. And for the finale—a buttery slice of seared Wagyu beef. Cooked dishes might include a vivid matsutake mushroom soup featuring an intense kelp broth. Though the dress code is casual, the room is still small and very hushed, making for an intimate meal.
