MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Maestro’s location amidst Old Town Pasadena’s national chains (The Cheesecake Factory, for instance) is a bit of a red herring as this upscale Mexican restaurant is anything but ordinary. Instead, discover a sexy, modern space with soft lighting and lofty ceilings (perfect for date night) along with an ambitious kitchen delivering ingredient-driven dishes. The chef plates with an artist's eye, elevating even the most humble of items to a creative form-imagine the likes of tamale with its red and green swirls, a surefire hit on Instagram. Braised lamb shank with just a bit of heat is yet another standout, but save the best for last with a moist corn cake topped with sweet and salty caramel popcorn, huitlacoche ice cream and crème anglaise.
