This is a swanky haven for local, California-inspired fine dining in the Rosewood Sand Hill hotel. The grand open kitchen, cathedral-style wooden ceiling, roaring fireplace, and large outdoor patio (complete with gorgeous views of the Santa Cruz mountains) draw an affluent crowd of savvy gourmands and local techies.
While lunch is a more breezy and relaxed affair—offering the likes of a cool consommé tailed by hearty cod with seasonal vegetables—most come at dinner to taste this kitchen team's ambition and thoughtfully composed items. The menu is short, concise, and shines the spotlight on contemporary flavors with a seasonal focus. Behold the single gougère filled with dollops of crème fraiche and pearls of caviar; as well as kampachi bathed in a flavorful cilantro-infused oil. Flannery 14-day-aged New York strip is a crisp and hearty feast, not unlike those batter-fried squash blossoms filled with an earthy blend of ratatouille and mushrooms.
Desserts are playful, delicious and do not hold back. For instance, the insanely rich peanut butter and black sesame parfait arrives with layers of fudgy brownie, decadent ganache, soft mousse, and brittle in a glass goblet.
