MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View
After a successful launch in Las Vegas, this swank and polished izakaya has made the jump to Los Angeles, where its signature robata skewers and ample sake list continue to thrill. The zen-like dining room, featuring plush banquettes and potted bamboo, has its own appeal, even though the prodigious late-night industry types prefer their seats in front of the open kitchen, where grill-masters work their magic. Must-order items include juicy Kurobuta pork cheeks, tender enoki mushrooms wrapped in crisp bacon and meaty pork ribs brushed with teriyaki sauce, which arrive falling off the bone. But don't sleep on their appetizers-the silky house-made tofu is a delight and that decadent poached egg mixed with uni and salmon roe is a marvel of texture.
