MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Chef/owner Arturo Mul grew up on the Yucatán peninsula, and the traditional Mayan dishes of his youth are now the backbone of this cute café in the heart of Half Moon Bay. Housed in an older home surrounded by gardens and a small side deck, this retreat is warm, inviting and, to the delight of local families, off most tourists’ radars.
Start with a plate of fried panuchos (stuffed with earthy black bean purée and topped with achiote-marinated tender pulled chicken). Then dig into the Mayan pork adobo served with fresh salsa, guacamole, a lightly pickled coleslaw and crema. But, save room for the true star of the show—grilled red snapper coupled with warm tortillas for wrapping, as well as queso for rich and creamy goodness.
