1. THE HOXTON, ROME - Rome, Italy

The post-industrial East London sensibility of the Hoxton hotels feels very different when adapted to a verdant, upscale Roman neighborhood. And while Rome is no stranger to cutting-edge boutique-hotel style, it doesn’t usually come so affordable or inclusive.

2. VIRGIN HOTEL NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans, Louisiana

Virgin Hotels aims for the same youthful, irreverent, swashbuckling approach the various Virgin brands have taken to everything from record stores to vodka to airlines. The Virgin Hotel New Orleans, naturally, gives you what you expect, and some surprises too.

3.THE AMELIA HUDSON - Hudson Valley, New York

The Amelia makes its home in a 19th-century Queen Anne–style house just a short walk from Hudson’s main drag. The old house has undergone a thorough but sensitive renovation, and has been updated with modern furniture and quietly chic design pieces.

4. THE WILD HOTEL BY INTERNI - Mykonos, Greece

The Wild Hotel isn’t wild like an all-night party, but rather like an undiscovered, unmolested patch of ocean-facing hillside — which is what it is. Here on the island’s southeast coast, far from Mykonos town, the vibe is bohemian, hand-crafted, and back-to-nature.

5. ARTHAUS BEIRUT - Beirut, Lebanon

Before they turned it into a hotel, owners Nabil and Zoe Debs lived in this spectacular house in Beirut’s bohemian Gemmayze neighborhood. Spread out across four distinct buildings (and incorporating some Roman ruins), now it’s a high-end boutique hotel.
