What It Is: A London-inspired brasserie from the team behind Marlowe and Park Tavern.
What Our Inspectors Say: “The restaurant has quickly become a see-and-be-seen haunt of the tech oligarchy (complete with a private club). However, the food is spot-on and homey, as seen in the corned beef-and-potato hash topped with a gently poached egg. Though reservations are a must, its location in the Hotel Zetta means service runs from morning to night, giving diners plenty of options.”
What It Is: Brought to you by veteran San Francisco restaurateurs Tim Stannard, Mark Sullivan and Andrew Green, The Village Pub has been a mainstay in Woodside since 2001.
What Our Inspectors Say: “Despite the glitz, the cuisine here is surprisingly approachable, from platters of house charcuterie served with fire-warmed artisan bread to the superb Pub burger, available in both the cozy front lounge and more formal main dining area. It’s there that the kitchen shines its brightest, with more elaborate entrées like the almond wood-grilled pork loin, adorned with crispy shrimp-and-pork croquettes, pungent black garlic and caramelized Brussels sprouts. The signature chocolate soufflé is an equally impressive display—its intense, not-too-sweet flavor cut by drizzles of crème anglaise infused with Earl Grey tea.”
What It Is: Jacob Racusin, Zack Schwab, Shane Matthews and Brian Shin’s gorgeous and bustling eatery on Fillmore.
What Our Inspectors Say: “Upscale but unpretentious, The Snug's menu is serious for a bar, spanning both snacks (think green garlic fritters rolled in an umami-rich wasabi pea powder) and more substantial plates like charred octopus with smoked avocado purée, ramps and melon. They meld nicely with the refreshing draft cocktails, like the nitrogenated, mezcal-spiked take on a Last Word.”
What It Is: A Financial District favorite by celebrity chef Tyler Florence.
What Our Inspectors Say: “Hearty Americana with seasonal accents defines the menu. Meals here usually begin with piping-hot popovers, and then proceed to buttermilk-brined fried chicken—both of which are the chef's signature dishes. Even fish specials, like pan-roasted salmon with wilted leeks, are pure comfort, as is the strawberry cheesecake finished with a graham cracker tuile.”
