Brooklyn Peltz Beckham on LA’s Dining Scene and What a MICHELIN Star Chef Taught Him to Make

The WESAKE co-founder shares his first food memory and how he discovers restaurants.

As part of our ongoing series to bring the MICHELIN Guide to life, we asked Brooklyn Peltz Beckham to break down the MICHELIN Distinctions, how he uses the MICHELIN Guide app, and what he likes about Los Angeles cuisine.

“I like dining out because you get to explore different cultures and different cuisines,” says recent Los Angeles transplant Brooklyn Peltz Beckham. The eldest son of David and Victoria moved there with his wife, Nicola, and has immersed himself in the gastronomic scene. “[Chefs] are so artistic, they’re so hardworking, every minute just trying to master their craft.” And while Peltz Beckham knows how to whip up a thing or two—check out season 1 of his show Cookin’ with Brooklyn where he tries his hand making sushi with Nobu Matsuhisa and baking with Nancy Silverton—you’re more likely to catch him scoping out Star spots in Los Angeles. “I find LA cuisine interesting,” says Peltz Beckham. “There’s amazing restaurants, especially downtown.”

And for a recent outing where we asked Peltz Beckham to help break down the MICHELIN Guide Distinctions, it’s hardly surprising that he selected Two Star Hayato in downtown Los Angeles. “My tattoo artist was like, you need to go here,” laughs Peltz Beckham with Chef Hayato Go adding, “As soon as he said tattoo artist, I knew it was Dr. Wu,” exclaimed Hayato Go. Japan has always held a special spot for Peltz Beckham who first went there on a guys trip with his father and friends. “The way the Japanese treat food, it’s so careful and so precise.” So beyond Hayato what else is on Peltz Beckham’s dream dining list? “Kato was one of the first restaurants I screenshotted when I got the MICHELIN app,” says Peltz Beckham. “I’ve been lucky enough to be in some cool places and having the app which shows you the location, stars, and hours on your phone is amazing,”
