The Plate • Fresh ingredients, carefully prepared: a good meal
25 - 50 USD
With a cheese selection that spans the globe and charcuterie flaunting the best in the Midwest, this is a prized haunt among urbanites craving some wine with their savory eats. Subtly styled like a cave for aging, its barrel-vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls evoke intimacy. A half-moon bar, marble-topped cheese counter and wood tables let guests gather and sample. As expected, many dishes feature cheese, though larger and shareable plates "from the kitchen" range from simple (roasted garlic plate) to complex (rack of lamb). Thick slices of bacon-wrapped country pâté are studded with pistachios. And, a concise wine list offers unique options for coupling with cheese, of course-the raw cow's milk Kentucky Rose with onion chutney is thoroughly delicious.
