The word gets thrown around, but there may be no more iconic an Alpine destination than Zermatt, in the shadow of the Matterhorn itself; so dramatic a setting demands architecture of some distinction, and in the case of Cervo Mountain Resort it’s provided by Dreimeta, a Bavaria-based design studio. Now its 54 rooms and suites (and seven outlying lodges) pursue wellness and mindfulness through thoughtful contemporary design, while the Mountain Ashram Spa gets there via yoga, meditation, and Japanese-style onsen baths. Restaurants include the Middle Eastern-flavored Bazaar, the Italian Madre Nostra, and the traditional Valais eatery Ferdinand.
