The distinctive high-rise tower that contains the Sofitel Mexico City Reforma stretches some 40 floors above the city, granting its occupants spectacular views of the Paseo de la Reforma and the rest of this sprawling city. In typical Sofitel style it’s unabashed about its Parisian influence, though it’s no carbon copy of the City of Light — it’s lovingly tailored to its Mexico City setting, and features roughly equal parts New World vigor and Old World glamour.
In the rooms, the focus is the extraordinary vista from the floor-to-ceiling windows; the décor is modernist-inspired but warm and organic, with lively patterned carpets to raise the energy level. The comforts themselves are high-end, with the French accent extending to the L’Occitane bath products, while automated curtains and Nespresso machines strike a modern note.
L’Occitane is also the partner for the hotel’s spa, which draws much of its inspiration from the city’s pre-Hispanic tradition. And a partnership between Paris and Mexico City is all but guaranteed to bear fruit in the restaurants, which include Balta, the Mediterranean-Mexican wood-fired kitchen, and a stunning French-meets-Mexican rooftop restaurant and bar.
