Long a waystation for hikers passing through the Swiss village of Champex-Lac, this alpinists’ club is now a proper boutique hotel, doing business under the eminently sensible name Au Club Alpin. The lakeside setting, at the foot of the Mont Blanc massif, is as magical as ever, while the six rooms and two suites combine sophisticated interior design with classic Alpine materials like fir and Simplon stone. The spa is an impressive one, especially given the hotel’s small scale, and the Restaurant Au 1465, named for the village’s elevation, serves a similarly elevated take on local, seasonal organic fare.
